Money alternative

There are so many things people used instead of money. Some of them are really unusual and extraordinary. A lot of people know that fur, fell, cacao beans, tobacco and other plants were used as money. But there are really interesting and unusual things that were used as money on the certain stage of human development.

People used the dogs' teeth, the pieces of limestone and even the pig tails. Sometimes the tail's chain reached 12 meters in its length. The island Yap had two kinds of money. It was the female money and the male. Women used the bracelets made of shells and men used the millstones as money.

In Ancient Rome people used the pockets of salt to pay to soldiers. And in such way the new Latin word appeared to name money that was solidus from the word soldato that meant the soldier. This form is conserved in Italian language.

The agricultural instruments were also used as money. Hatchets, mattocks, knives were the money.

Some ancient countries even used the parrot's plume to buy something.

People needed much time until they started to use the golden, silver and bronze coins as money. And this was the huge step forward in the civilization development and the financial economic relations.

Even nowadays some peoples of Oceania use animal's teeth, shells and agricultural products instead of paper money.
